Kelly Parrish

I still remember when I learned I was born in the Year of the Dragon. It felt like a spark of recognition — not because I see myself as mythical or larger than life, but because the dragon, to me, means creativity that’s bold, expressive, and deeply layered. As a self-taught illustrator, that idea guides how I move between the pencil in my hand and the digital tools on my screen.

My work lives in that in-between space — where a hand-drawn sketch meets digital color, where warmth meets clarity, where feeling meets form. Like the dragon, I believe in bringing together different elements to create something that feels alive and full of character. Whether I’m illustrating a character, designing a pattern, or building a visual story, I aim for that same sense of energy and intention.

To me, drawing is a way of thinking with my hands — it’s personal, it’s tactile, and it tells a story no software can replicate. And knowing I carry a bit of the dragon’s spirit with me? It just reminds me to draw with a little more courage, and a little more soul.
